MORGANTOWN, Ky. — Opal C. Burden, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his residence. He was born July 20, 1926, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Clarence and Mishie Bratcher Burden and husband of the late Anna Rose Jackson Burden.

Opal loved everyone and was a softhearted man. He enjoyed life, coon hunting, coaching little league baseball and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. Last year he celebrated his 90th birthday with a trip to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play. In October, we cheered his Cubbies on to win the World Series.

Opal was saved many years ago at Heyworth Baptist Church. He was a good provider for his family and enjoyed farming and operating heavy equipment.

He and Anna Rose gave their children a happy home that was full of love. Opal was a member of Belmont General Baptist Church and a retired operating engineer Local 181.

Other than his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Delania Brooke Embry; one great-grandchild, Mollee Elizabeth Embry; three sisters, Dessie Goodman, Velmer Burden and Juanita Burden; and two brothers, Roy and Delmer Burden.

Opal C. Burden is survived by two sons, Wayne Burden (Teresa), of Morgantown, and Steve Burden (Martha), of Cromwell, Ky.; three daughters, Mesha Pendley (David), of Provo, Ky., Carolyn Embry (Bro. Gary), of Morgantown, Ky., and Angie Flener (Shirley), of Morgantown, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gennita Burden, of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Belmont General Baptist Church Tuesday, June 20, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Gary Embry officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Chapel and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until funeral time at 1 p.m. at Belmont General Baptist Church.
