OWENSBORO, Ky. — Norma Jean Gilbert Buck, 81, of Owensboro, formerly of Ohio County, Ky., entered into rest on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born June 21, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Overt and Ethel Lucy Carey Gilbert.

Mrs. Jean was a member of Bells Run Baptist Church near Whitesville, Ky., and a retired machine operator for Hartford Standard Corporation and Nestway in Beaver Dam, Ky.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and loved seek and find word puzzles.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orbry Lee Buck; one daughter, Erma Christine Hastie; and two brothers, Elmer Gilbert and Ralph Gilbert.

Survivors include one son, Samuel Lee (Rebecca) Buck, of Owensboro; one daughter, Wanda Jean Buck (Mike), of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Virgie Sharp, of Maceo, Ky., and Gertrude Shipp, of New Mexico; and son-in-law, Bill Hastie, of Owensboro. Mrs. Jean was blessed with nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with Pastor Ray Peach officiating. Burial will be in Bells Run Cemetery near Whitesville. Friends are welcome to visit with the family of Norma Jean Buck from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday and 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
