BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Clarice Daniel Tatum, 101, of Beaver Dam, died Monday, May 22, 2017, at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on Aug. 15, 1915, in Ohio County to the late Roy and Dora Schroeder Daniel.

After a brief stint as a teacher, she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Tatum was a member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, and her faith was very important to her. She also was a member of the Beaver Dam Woman’s Club and the Bennetts Homemakers Club.

She was an expert seamstress, making her own stylish clothes, and her quilts are cherished by family and friends.

Her cooking was much-loved by her family, especially her fried chicken and Kentucky jam cake. She won several prizes at the Ohio County Fair for her sewing, cooking, and (in later years) writings.

She was an avid reader and continued to enjoy newspapers, books, magazines and word puzzles into her final year.

Mrs. Tatum loved her home on Bethel Church Road. She was a proud mother and grandmother, and took great happiness in her family’s accomplishments. She cared for her mother during a year-long sickness, as well as her father during his final illness.

She also was the main caregiver for her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s. In turn, she was taken care of in her last years by the kind and loving staff of Dogwood Estates and Beaver Dam Nursing.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Tatum, and a brother, Carroll, who died in infancy.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Tatum Young, of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Terry (John) Tatum, of Chicago, Ill.; two granddaughters, Michelle (Jeff) Young Easto, of Houston, Texas, and Leigh (Monica) Young, of San Antonio, Texas; a long-time friend and caregiver, Paula Renfrow, of Beaver Dam, and many other friends and extended-family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Bevil Brothers Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Bro. Gary Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, and from 9 a.m. until funeral time on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of either flowers or donations to the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church.
