Gary Dant, 67, of Calhoun, Ky., died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. James Gary Dant was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Owensboro, Ky., to the late James Wilford and Gertie Boyd Young Dant and was married to the former Nancy Settle on July 25, 1970.
Gary was a staff sergeant stationed in Korea and later retired as a mechanic after 31 years at Alcan. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and attended Calhoun United Methodist Church.
Gary was a dedicated father and friend that would work from daylight to dark for his friends and family, but would never ask for help for himself. He enjoyed whatever his wife, kids, and grandkids enjoyed; whether it be ballgames, fishing, boating on the river, hunting, riding the golf cart, and riding horses. He had endless patience and loved to joke around with everyone around him kids or adults. Words can never express how much we loved him and will miss him.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Nancy Dant; a son and his wife, Marc and Patti Dant of Hartford; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Danny Lovell of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Ashlee Moore, Marci Dant, Tyler Lovell, J.T. Dant, Grant Lovell, and Mason Lovell; a great grandson Tate Moore; four brothers and their wives, Michael and Margaret Dant, Noah and Vicki Dant, Fred and Debbie Dant, and Neal Dant; two sisters and their husbands, Judy and Eddie Sallee, and Tammy and Alan Richey; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Revs. Ken Berggren and Mike Grimes officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County with Military Honors. Friends may visit with Gary’s family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.
