James (Jim) Clark Sanford, III, of Beaver Dam, Ky., passed away June 7, 2014. He was born Aug. 11, 1940, to James Clark Sanford, II, and Elizabeth Townsend Sanford.
Jim was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He worked as an Industrial Engineer for Thomas Industries, Inc., as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and as a general carpenter/contractor. He loved gardening and chasing his grandchildren. He was a Jaycee and a Kentucky Colonel, and a long time standing member of Hartford Christian Church.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, James Clark Sanford, II, and Elizabeth Townsend Sanford; two sisters, Linn Sanford Ezell and Dorothy (Dot) Sanford Baldwin; and stepdaughter, Teresa Lennette Stacy Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Stephanie Sanford; one daughter, Catherine Joy Sanford (Kevin Duffy) of Franklin, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Rita Stacy DeVillier (Fred) of Louisville, Ky., and Cathy Maria Stacy Smith (Wendell) of Beaver Dam, Ky.; one son, Kenneth Alan Sanford of Buckner, Ky.; two stepsons, Stephen Stacy (Patsy) and Albert Kenny Stacy, both of Beaver Dam, Ky.; and seven sisters, Jane Sanford of Clarksville, Tenn., June Johnston of Pembroke, Ky., Joy Taylor (Darrell) of Columbus, Ga., Claudette Noel (Pete) of Cadiz, Ky., Jean McGee of Nashville, Tenn., Alma Sanford of Nashville, Tenn., and Beth Townsend of Columbus, Ga. Jim had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As Jim always said when asked how many, “grandchildren are made for loving, not counting!” He also had many nieces and nephews.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” Service on Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Hartford Christian Church, 122 W. Walnut St., Hartford, Ky. 42347.
