Ben Harrison Perry, 85, of Hartford, Ky., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at Professional Care Health & Rehab Center in Hartford. He was born March 10, 1929, in Letcher County, Ky., to the late George Alvin Perry and Cora Lee Sexton Perry.
After 44 years in the mining industry, Mr. Perry retired from Peabody Coal as a fire boss and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Hartford. He also enjoyed gardening and his Martin Houses.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Arba D. Perry of Hartford; one son, Darrell G. Perry (Kathy Diane) of Hartford; two daughters, Karen Hayden (Thomas) of Beaver Dam and Dinah Wiggins (Len) of Paonia, Colo; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Barney Perry and Robert Perry; five sisters, Oma Perry, Reba Martin, Rosa Branham, Wilma Matthews and Mary Lewis and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Rev. Pete Leach officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford, Ky.
