M.D. Hill, (Butch/Coach “B”), 70, of Bradenton, Fla., died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his home. He was born in Ohio County, on Nov. 9, to J. Carl and Winnie (Pete Tatum) Hill.

Butch was an avid lover, participant and mentor of tennis and basketball. He followed his dreams by attending Murray State University and playing for the Racers 1961-66. He attained a B.S./M.S. in education, worked as a tennis/basketball coach and retired as an elementary school principal. Other interests were real estate and riding his Harley. Butch organized the first tennis complex at the Henderson C.H.S., and expanded the Junior Development City Tennis Program, which mentors and introduces tennis to the children of Henderson. He was a certified USPTA, Level 1 tennis pro and member of the El Conquistador Racquet Club where he spent many “Happy Times” with his wonderful friends. Butch was a faithful member of the West Bradenton Baptist Church and a Christian mentor for the children’s A.W.A.N.A.S. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis, father of Greg of Sarasota, Fla., and Scott of Evansville, Ind.; brother to Jessie Carl, Joyce Henry and Olive Sandefur all of Kentucky.

A “Celebration of Life” will be on Thursday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at West Bradenton Baptist Church, 1305 43rd Street West, Bradenton, Fla. 34209 and on Tuesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home 629 South Green Street, Henderson, Ky.
