Joyce G. Moody, RN, 83, of Owensboro, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 1, 2014, after being well-served by a caring staff at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and the Heartford House. She was born at home in Ohio County, Ky., the middle child of five.
She was in the OHS graduating class of 1949 and continued her studies at Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Louisville, where she earned her RN. She loved nursing and worked for many years as a nurse in the Owensboro area. The hallmark of her life was that she cared for others. She will be remembered by her family as a creative person who wrote poetry, sang and played the guitar, and who painted portraits of her family members as well as created small masterpieces on eggs, all things that reflect her great zeal for life. She was a member of Third Baptist Church in Owensboro.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hunter and Ethel Moody; her older brothers, Darrell and ‘Junior’ Moody; her younger sister, Angelia Moody Grannick, and a niece and nephew, Becky Moody and Joey Moody.
She is survived by her beloved brother Adrian Moody of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Frances Dillehay Moody and Annetta Moody Pyle as well as her brother-in-law, Michael Grannick. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Karen Moody Barnett, Christopher Moody, Bradley Moody, Jane Moody Martin, Debbie Moody Schellhase, David Moody, Stephanie Moody Vaughters, Randy Richard, Rhonda Walker, and Autumn Grannick Peterson. She also took great interest in her great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Davis Funeral Home on 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Visitation will be held the same morning after 10 a.m. She will be buried later at a private service at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro.
