Louis “Lou” Arnold Bennett, Sr., 84, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Wellington Parc. He was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Haskell O. and Martha Condit Bennett.

He was a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War receiving seven Battle Stars. He was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, VFW, AmVets, FOE, American Legion and a lifetime member of Disable American Veterans.

Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Wahler Bennett (1996); daughter, Juanita Bennett Aull; son, Lou Bennett; granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Bennett, and two brothers, Wilfred G. Bennett and James O. Bennett.

Surviving are three sons, Haskell (Paula) Bennett of Owensboro, Daniel (Sandy) Bennett of Owensboro, Jerry Shepherd of Owensboro; stepson, Terry (Stella) Wahler of Hammond, Ind.; three daughters, Barbara Bennett of Owensboro, Martha (Glenn) Chilton of Hopkinsville, Paula Mae Bennett of Hartford, 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
