WreathaProffittWreatha Proffitt, 91, of Caneyville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Kindred Health Care in Owensboro. She was born May 18, 1922, in Ohio County to the late Ethel and Alma Maiden.

Wreatha was a member of the Caneyville Church of Christ for 63 years. She enjoyed and was proud to be a farmer. Wreatha was also a floral designer at Fran’s Flower Shop for 23 years, an artist and loved gardening and quilting. She was very active in the Grayson County Homemakers Club. She was the first woman in Grayson County to serve as a board member for the Farm and Home Administration.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, W.C. “Witt” Proffitt; a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Leigh Proffitt; a sister, Charlene Beatty and a brother, Gerald Maiden.

Wreatha is survived by her son, Kenneth Proffitt (Juanita); her granddaughter, Pamela Douglas (Glen); her great-granddaughter, Samantha Douglas; her great-great-grandson, Aiden all of Owensboro and two sisters, Macel Hayden (Pat) of Dayton, Ohio, and Freda Ford Powell (James) of Owensboro. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews whom were very dear to her.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville. Bro. Jarrod Jacobs will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sunny Side Cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Friends may call at the Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
