Jerry Dale Elms, 67, of Hartford passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born Nov. 20, 1945, in Hartford to the late Luther Wilson Elms and Christine Whitler Elms.
Mr. Elms retired from Goodman’s Barber Shop in Owensboro, attended Hartford Baptist Church and served as PVT. Second Class in the Kentucky Army National Guard Company A, 2nd Battalion 123rd Division Armor Livermore, Ky., from Aug. 23, 1965, until Aug. 22, 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Don Elms and his wife Jeanne Marie Elms of Franklin, Tenn., and Anthony Elms of Cromwell; one daughter, Lisa Payne and her husband Phillip of Hartford; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce Elms of Hartford and Greg Elms of Beaver Dam and two sisters, Sue Shephard and her husband Pastor Charles Shephard of Hartford and Rosseta Risse of Hartford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, Ky., with Rev. Keith Shephard and Jerry Don Elms officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford with full military honors by Wesley C. Phelps Honor Guard of Ohio County, Ky.
