Loretta ‘Lori’ Gale Newbolt McEwen

LoriMcEwenLoretta “Lori” Gale Newbolt McEwen, 55, of Beaver Dam, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born March 13, 1958, in Owensboro, Ky., to the late Emitt Earl Newbolt and Anna Ruth Jones Newbolt.

She was a 1976 graduate of Owensboro High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University. Lori retired from the Social Security Administration Office in Owensboro as a service representative and had formerly been employed by Lincoln Federal Savings and Loan, the Ohio County Board of Education as a substitute teacher and King Drug and Home Care. Lori was a member of Hartford Baptist Church and a former member of Living Faith Baptist church. Lori loved the outdoors and loved being near water. She felt nature made her closer to God and at peace within.

She was also preceded in death by her grandparents Roy and Opal Newton Newbolt; Rushing and Tinnie Glass Jones and niece Sarah Tichenor Parez. 

Survivors include three sons, Matthew Lee McEwen and his wife, Hillary, of Lexington, Ky., Michael J. McEwen and his wife, Sarah, and John Thomas McEwen, all of Beaver Dam; four grandchildren, James Ivan McEwen, Peyton Emily McEwen, Anna Morgan McEwen and Elijah James McEwen; two devoted friends, Glen Berryman and Sharon Powell both of Beaver Dam; two brothers, Richard E. Newbolt and his wife, Susan, of Sabetha, Kan., and Jerry Lynn Newbolt and his wife ,Charlene, of Birmingham, Ala., and three sisters, Sylvia Barlow and her husband, Don, of Owensboro, Ky., Brenda Joyce “Joy” Tichenor and her husband, Charlie, of Springs, Texas, and Janet Marie Taylor and her husband,  Rev. David Taylor, of Cedartown, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Gale and her husband, Steve Woolsey of Texarkana, Ark.; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She loved and was dearly loved by many friends. She took great joy in her precious grandchildren. Her wonderful smile, laugh and joy in the Lord will not be forgotten.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Ky. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
