Edith Gunn Matthews, 81, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, at her home. She was born in Richmond, Va. on March 11, 1931 daughter of the late Willie
B. and Ethel Magnolia Randall Gunn.
She was also preceded in death by her husband James Firnander Matthews, Sr. and daughter Susan Catherine Matthews.
Ms. Edith was a tax preparer and bookkeeper. Ms. Edith was a member and treasurer of Cromwell United Methodist Church, a member of the Cromwell Community Development League, was a Board Member and Sec/Treasurer of Cromwell Fire Dept., was a Kentucky Colonel and was the recipient of The Jefferson Award.
She is survived by her son James Firnander Matthews, Jr.; daughter Sharon Darlene Matthews; 3 grandchildren Stephanie Michelle Sanders, Jamie Ryan Waldrop and Hillary Grace Smith; 7 great-grandchildren and her brother Phillip (Janice) Gunn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Mike Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Green River Church Cemetery near Cromwell. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
