Rachel Taylor Hines, 92, went to be with her Lord, Friday April 20, 2012, at Owensboro Medical Health System in Owensboro, Ky.  Rachel was born in the Herbert Community of Ohio County, Ky., on Sept. 9,1919 daughter of the late Charles and Baxter Miller Taylor. Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Stewart R. Hines and one daughter Rebecca.

Rachel was a homemaker, a member of the Ohio County AARP, Ohio County Hospital Auxiliary, Ohio County Senior Citizens Choir, member of  Hartford Baptist Church and the Ohio County Historical Society.  Rachel was a 30-year RSVP volunteer and a 40-year cancer survivor.  She was very active with the 50-year ministry of her husband Stewart.  She was a Sunday School teacher, WMU director and a VBS director.  Rachel was an avid scrabble player.  She enjoyed southern gospel music, was a great story teller and loved sharing stories about growing up in Herbert, Ky., where she met her prince charming.

In later years, she fondly remembered all the good people she came to know from the many churches where “Daddy” preached.  Mai-maw knew how to hook a worm on the line and was a great fisherman.  She was a special woman who loved her family dearly and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Rachel is survived by her daughters Nell Wilson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Charlotte Whittaker (Gerald) of Hartford, Ky.  A special sister-in-law Mary Ida Rearden and several nieces and nephews. Grandkids Stephen Wilson (Sarah), David Wilson (Katy), Bryan Whittaker (Lori), Mendy Brownd (David) and Jon Whittaker (Kelly Freeman).  Great-grandkids Lukas Stewart Whittaker, Jacob Allen Brownd, Austin James Brownd, Mason Troy Whittaker, Nathan Wayne Whittaker, Helen Rachel Wilson, Claudia Renee Wilson, Stewart Shelby Wilson and Karly Lynn Whittaker.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Dr. Mike Rust, Rev. Ed Mitchell and Rev. Joel Wayne will be officiating.  Burial will follow in Cates Cemetery in Whitesville, Ky., where Rev. Jason Bratcher will have graveside services.  Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
