
While growing up with both parents in the military Gerard lived in Germany, Italy, and England. Gerard graduated from Valley High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he played football and ran track.
Gerard served in the Army.
Gerard received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was a retired School Media Specialist.
On August 16, 1980, Gerard married his soulmate, Penny, and they recently renewed their vows and commitment to each other. Penny was his dedicated caregiver since his bout with cancer.
In his younger days Gerard enjoyed playing a round of golf, a set or two of tennis and going to the movies. He also enjoyed traveling and driving his shiny, red Mustang. He passed quite a few cars in his time.
Gerard was of the Catholic Faith.
His visitation will be held at the William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. His funeral will be held at Holy Redeem Catholic Church in Beaver Dam at 11 a.m. with Father Ray Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with full Military Honors by Ohio County Honor Guard.
