
Fred retired from Peabody Coal working at Ken and Martwick Mines. He was a member of UMWA and New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Baizetown since 1943. Fred married his best friend and love of his life 68 years ago in the judge’s chambers with the sheriff and county attorney as their witnesses. The witnesses made the judge more nervous than the bride and groom were.
Fred was an avid fisherman and UK fan. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Nina Bray McQuady; grandson, Johnny Ray Smith; stepmother, Stella McQuady; stepsister, Alice Faye Embry; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Anna Mae Moore Bray; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Beulah Bray as well as brothers-in-law, Wendell McCormick and Norman Wendell.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory are four children, Diana McQuady, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Fred (Dale) McQuady, of Lexington, Kentucky, Brenda (Paul) Smith, of Baizetown, Kentucky, and Sherry McQuady, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jimmy Smith, Jamey Smith, Travis (Barbara) McQuady, Aaron McQuady, and Elise McQuady; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda McQuady of Cromwell, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Ernest Embry; stepbrother, Gene Goodman, of Hartford, Kentucky; sister, Patricia Wendell, of Marysville, Michigan; sister-in-law, Winnie McCormick, of Beaver Dam; uncle, Aaron Daugherty, of Louisville, Kentucky; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, with Bro. Greg Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery. Friends may visit with Fred’s family from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
