LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mrs. Lula Belle Ruby (née Beatty), 87, passed away peacefully on Aug. 4, 2025, in Louisville. Born on April 6, 1938, in Horse Branch, Kentucky, Lula lived a full and vibrant life marked by her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

Lula was the beloved daughter of Bertha and Una Beatty and grew up in a large and loving family.

Lula was a woman who embraced life with open arms. Raised in the Pentecostal faith, she later found spiritual community at both Garfield Baptist Church and Shawnee Baptist Church. Her faith remained an important part of her life’s journey.

Known for her outgoing nature and magnetic personality, Lula never met a stranger. Her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Whether sharing stories or offering a helping hand, she had a way of making people feel seen and loved.

She found joy in simple pleasures—especially visiting Churchill Downs or trying her luck at the casino. These outings were not just pastimes but reflections of her zest for life and love for social connection.

Lula Belle Ruby will be remembered as a woman whose heart knew no bounds—a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence brought light to every room she entered. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her cherished husband, William G. Ruby III; four brothers, Johnny, Lonnie, Junior, and Billy Beatty; and three sisters, Nellie Cauthon, Buela Fay Beatty, and Eula May Burden.

She is survived by her three devoted children, Janice Hersey (David Hersey), Patricia Logsdon (Charles Logsdon), and Danny Phelps (Susan Rich). Lula’s legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, LeAnn Phelps (Damon Colvin), Michael Judd, Troy Logsdon (April), Nikki Doolittle (Erik), Aaron Arrowood (Rachael), Griffen Phelps, and Cadence Phelps. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Austin Lawery, Gerome Blackett, Troy Logsdon Jr., Kason Logsdon and Luca Logsdon, each of whom brought immense joy to her later years.

Per her wishes she is being cremated and ashes buried in the plot next to her late husband.

As no formal service is being had we ask instead of flowers that you donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of her.
