WHITESVILLE, Ky. — James Charles “Charlie” Johnson, 75, of Whitesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Charlie was born on Oct. 15, 1949, and was the beloved son of the late Ricel and Thelma Hayes Johnson.
Charlie was a loving father, stepfather, and grandfather. He retired from AK Steel after many years of dedicated work. He was a talented mechanic, oil field worker, and truck driver. Charlie never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Young.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Angela Johnson, of Whitesville; daughter, Michelle (Jim) Van Fleet, of Grandview, Kentucky; sons, James (Dana) Johnson, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeff (Kimberly) Johnson, of Newburgh, Kentucky; stepsons, Gary Johnson, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Mike Johnson, of Louisville, and Steve Johnson of Hartford, Kentucky; sisters, Geneva (Joe) Howard, of Whitesville, Sue (Tony) Whitaker, of Owensboro, Juanita Johnson, of Owensboro; brothers, Paul (Jane) Johnson, of Hartford, and Billy Johnson, of Utica, Kentucky; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family and friends.
To honor how Charlie lived his life, the family wishes for those touched by his generosity to perform a good deed in his honor.

There will be no funeral services per Charlie’s wishes.
