CENTERTOWN, Ky. — David Allen Johnson “Coonhunter,” 66 years-old, of Centertown, passed away at his home on June 26, 2025, peacefully in his home. David was born Aug. 24, 1958, to the late Lelan Ray and the late Evia Irene Johnson.
He was a cherished husband, father, papaw, brother, son in law, friend, and member of the Walton’s Creek Baptist Church. David was a retired coal miner of over 40 years, an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He enjoyed westerns, The Andy Griffith Show, and spending time with his beloved family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepsister, Melva Pendley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Sally Jo’el Johnson; his three beloved daughters, Leslie Crowe (Jeremy), of Hartford, Kentucky, Lisa Zlatovic (Senad), of Rogers, Arkansas, and Gina Johnson (Kyle Martin), of Harford; seven beautiful granddaughters, Eva Grace, Adley Joelle, Lyla Jane, Minka Grace, Mila Bradley, Remi Cate, Kinsley Grace, and one baby boy coming soon; two sisters, Shirley Grundy (Thurman), of Central City, Kentucky, and Kathy Hardin, of Kuttawa, Kentucky; four brothers, Danny Johnson, of Kuttawa, Stan Johnson (Sherry), of Morgantown, Kentucky, Vernon Johnson, of Morgantown, and Eric Johnson, of Kuttawa; his stepmother, Ruby Suddath Johnson; one stepsister, Reda Casebier (Scott), of Beechmont, Kentucky; two stepbrothers, Alton Gaines (Lisa), of Beechmont, and Rodney Gaines (Meredith), of Greenville, Kentucky; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Bishop, of Centertown, and Joe Bishop (Melinda), of Centertown; one uncle, Bobby Johnson, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Grace Bishop, of Centertown.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. June 30, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Barry Davis officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Walton’s Creek Cemetery.
