**UPDATE** LOUISVILLE, Ky. (9:10 p.m. – June 26) — The National Weather Service in Lousiville has extended the Heat Advisory for Ohio County. The Heat Advisory was set to expire this Wednesday evening, then extended to Thursday evening, and now expires at 7 p.m. Friday, June 27.

That is, unless the NWS decides to extend it to Saturday.

According to the NWS, heat index values over 102 are expected throughout portions of south central Indiana and east central, north central, northwest, and south central Kentucky. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms will remain through the weekend. Gusty winds, heavy rain and lightning are the main threats.
