UTICA, Ky. — Gayla Maria Stevens, 76, of Utica, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Lloyd D. and Angela Louise Rhinerson Farmer.
Mrs. Gayla attended Blessed Mother School and was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High.
She retired after spending many years working in local factories. However, in more recent years, she worked as a bus monitor for Daviess County Public Schools. To her, it wasn’t a job. She loved and enjoyed all the school-children she came in contact with.
She enjoyed U.K. Basketball, the outdoors, fishing, hunting and horse riding. Gayla and her husband David had a summer home at Lake Barkley where they enjoyed boating and riding side-by-sides. She treasured time with family and the grandchildren, always with a camera close by. Gayla will be dearly missed by many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Renae Moore; a grandson, Jonathon Moore; and a sister, Dianne Reynolds.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by her best friend of 45 years and husband of 30 years, David Stevens; children, Donna Lashley (Brent), of Rockport, Kentucky, Donald Leon McCarthy II, of Rockport, Valerie Hidenrite (Greg Maxberry), of Rockport, Terri Tierney (Brian), of Fordsville, Kentucky, and Clint Stevens (Suellen), of Pleasant Ridge, Kentucky; grandchildren, Summer, Amber, Jackson, Jason, Kalen, Savannah, Seth, Kyle, Regan, Avery, Tyler, and Samantha; and 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 a.m. until 7 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 10a.m. at St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
