MORGANTOWN, Ky. — Edith Colleen Tines, known affectionately as Colleen to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Chautauqua Health & Rehab in Owensboro, Kentucky. Born on Thursday, Feb. 20, 1936, in Ewing, Missouri, Colleen lived a full and vibrant life marked by her dedication to her family, her faith, and her love for the simple pleasures of gardening and being with her loved ones.
Colleen was the daughter of the late Ray and Fern Sparrow and the beloved wife of the late Edward Lee Tines. Her life was a testament to love and resilience, qualities that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son John Edward Tines, her brother Michael Sparrow, and her stepmother Hazel Sparrow.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Richardson (David), of Leitchfield, Kentucky. Colleen’s legacy continues through her four grandchildren, Latisha Heller, of Leitchfield, Kristen Embry (Trevor), of Caneyville, Kentucky, Justin Tines (Jennifer), of Hartford, Kentucky, and Jonathan Tines, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Katelyn, Jackson, Audriana, Emaree, Hudson, Natalie, Kylie, Layni, Keaton, and Kenzli, that brought her immense joy; as did her great-great-grandson, Axton Lee. Colleen’s sister, Sandra Edwards (Larry), of Davenport, Iowa, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Colleen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a member of Green River Missionary Baptist Church and attended Little Clifty Baptist Church, where she found great comfort and community. She enjoyed working in her flowers and tending to her garden, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. with Bro.Steve Hill officiating. A private burial will be in the Sandy Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 10 a.m. until funeral time at 2 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
