HARTFORD, Ky. — The National Weather Service has issued a forecast for how Rough River’s flooding will affect Hartford and Dundee’s areas. In addition, the NWS provided a briefing on the potential for severe thunderstorms today and tomorrow in the area. Colder temperatures will also bring a freeze to the area next week. Ohio County is currently under a Flood Watch and a Flood Warning.

Ohio County Emergency Management Director Charlie Shields shared a map from the NWS with the flooding forecast for Rough River. Rough River is currently forecasted to crest around 2 p.m. Sunday.

At 9:30 a.m., the Dundee Rough River gauge was at 29.0 feet. The NWS forecasts that Rough River will crest at 30.o feet around 2 p.m. Sunday. However, because this is just a forecast, it’s possible the number could be higher.

Areas in and around the Dundee Fire Department, KY 136 near Heflin Road, KY 69 N near the Ohio County Park, KY 69 N as you leave Hartford for Centertown and KY 69 N near the U.S. 231 junction will experience massive flooding. The NWS also said it’s possible parts of U.S. 231 will be flooded between Hartford and Beaver Dam.

If you are in any of these areas, Shileds advises you to evacuate now.

“Don’t wait until it’s too late,” Shields said.

The NWS also released a briefing this morning on the potential for more severe weather in the area. According to the NWS, Ohio County does have the potential to receive more severe thunderstorms today with the best chance being this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds and isolated tornadoes may be possible with these storms. Ohio County may receive even more heavy rain with these storms and dangerous flooding will continue.

There does not seem to be a threat for severe thunderstorms Sunday. Heading into next week, the area will experience low temperatures with some areas getting a hard freeze. Early moring temperatures next week could dip in the mid to upper 20s.
