BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Frances Ann Oller Hurst, 81, of Beaver Dam, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was born on June 22, 1943, in Hartford, Kentucky, to the late Alvy and Willie Pearl Landrum Oller.
Frances was a member of Beaver Dam Methodist Church for over 58 years where she served in several capacities during this time. She served on the church board as secretary and was a member of the Beaver Dam Methodist Women, was in charge of crafts for bible school, prepared communion for years and was involved in decorating for holidays and showers.
Frances had a love for golf and was a charter member of the Ohio County Country Club. On the day that Elvis Presley died, she won her one and only Women’s Invitational tournament. Frances worked as a receptionist for Dr. Ralph Shrewsbury and Dr. Jonny Shrewsbury, she worked at Flowerland Florist and Johnson’s Signs and Trophies and also worked as a special education assistant at Centertown Elementary. She was a talented seamstress, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and won many first-place ribbons at the Ohio County Fair. Because of her talents, Frances was tasked as being the seamstress for the Ohio County Band uniforms. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George Allen Hurst.
She leaves behind to cherish many memories, her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Stephen D. Slack, of Maceo, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Hannah Slack, of Owensboro, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Faye Swanson and Georgia and Diana (Jon) Hogan, both of Griffin, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Bob Shown, of Beaver Dam; her cat, Special; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Beaver Dam Methodist Church (302 N. Lafayette Street, Beaver Dam, KY 42320) with Pastor Jeremy Ruegg officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Frances’ family from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at Beaver Dam Methodist Church. William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam has been entrusted with the arrangements.
