HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Johnnie Marvin Mathis Sr., 78, of Horse Branch, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, at his residence. He was born on July 5, 1946, in Clarkson, Kentucky, the son of the late John F. and Gertrude Blanton Mathis.
He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran and after his service to his country he was an over the road truck driver. After retiring from truck driving, he enjoyed his farm in Horse Branch.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Willard, Jerry and Shirley.
Left to honor Johnnie’s memory is his wife of 25 years, Debra McGrew Mathis; his children, Johnnie Marvin Mathis Jr. (Amy), Kevin Scott Mathis (Jamie), Derek Mathis, William Travis Royster (Kerstin), and Devin Shay Staves (Cain); his grandchildren, Dylan, Makayla (Austin), Jacob, Jonah, Mikah, Jaydn, McKenna, Tavish, Caige, Dallas, and Elam; one great-grandchild, Adelaide; and three siblings, Georgia, Lloyd and Debbie.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Caneyville Funeral Home with burial to follow at Woodcock Cemetery.
