MORGANTOWN, Ky. — Joice A. Johnson, 78, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Born on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, Joice’s life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and service.

An active and dedicated member of the Mt. Lebanon Church of Christ for 63 years. Her commitment to her church community was a reflection of her deep belief in compassion and service.

Professionally, Joice worked at Kanes Manufacturing for 23 years. She later touched the lives of many young individuals during her 17-year tenure with the Butler County School System, where she worked in the cafeteria, always remembering each child’s lunch number with a smile. Joice’s interests were as vibrant and varied as her personality.

She found joy in sewing and crocheting, creating beautiful pieces. Her passion for life shone through in her love of being outdoors, whether mowing the lawn under the sun’s rays, listening to music, watching dancing, or simply looking at the water.

Joice’s enthusiasm for attending church services was a reflection of her faith-filled life, which inspired all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra Tarrence and Linda Johnson Tarrence Keown; her stepfather, JC “Pappy J” Keown; and her siblings, Inez Smith, Martha Taylor, Ann Bratcher, Randal, and Billy Tarrence.

Joice’s memory is cherished by her devoted husband of 56 years, Charles Johnson, whom she married on Nov. 30, 1968. Their union was blessed with two children, Lisa Johnson, of Evansville, Indiana, and Matthew Johnson, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and further enriched by the joy of her two grandchildren, Mattalyn and Addisyn Johnson, of Bowling Green. Joice’s love extended beyond her immediate family to her sister/daughter, Linda Maden (Freddie), of Hartford, Kentucky; her sisters, Rhuelma Elmore, of Stanford, Kentucky, and Vickie Vincent (Lee), of Brownsville, Kentucky; her brother, Kevin Tarrence, of Morgantown; along with several nieces and nephews.
