HARTFORD, Ky. — Christy Lynn Higdon – Louisville, Kentucky. Born July 21, 1964, and went to be with our Lord on Feb. 16, 2025.
Christy was the daughter of Bob and Francil Higdon, of Hartford. She was the big sister to four brothers, the late Ron (Angela) Higdon, of Lenior City Tennessee, Eric (Andrea) Higdon, of Crestwood Kentucky, Kelley Higdon, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Nick (Katie) Higdon, of Evansville Indiana, and the aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Christy grew up in Hartford where she graduated from Ohio County High School in 1982 and then attended Western Kentucky University, graduating in 1987. During her high school years, Christy was an all-district and region basketball player, a participant in the Mason Dixon games, and a state medalist in Track and Field. In college Christy played point guard at WKU during the 1983 and 1984 seasons.
Christy was a dedicated teacher and a fiery coach as her players and referees could attest throughout her entire career life. She spent over 30 years teaching and mentoring numerous students and players.
Christy started teaching and coaching basketball as an assistant at Ohio County High School. She later became a teacher and head coach for girls basketball at Butler County High School in Morgantown Kentucky. After moving to the Louisville area, she taught at Kenwood Station Elementary in Crestwood Ky where she retired in 2018.
Her love and dedication to coaching and mentoring continued after retirement where she was an assistant coach at Louisville Butler and Mercy Academy in Louisville. Anyone that ever met her would tell you of her caring and spirited personality as she lived it every day.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, with Father Julio Barrera presiding. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam before proceeding to Holy Redeemer.
