MADISONVILLE, Ky. — As rainfall continues into the overnight hours, motorists are urged to avoid travel when possible for their own safety and that of other motorists on the roadway.
Significant rainfall amounts have resulted in numerous flooded roadways across District 2, as well as a rock slide along a portion of Interstate 69 that has left one lane blocked on the northbound side of the roadway overnight near the 87-mile mark.
Drivers are reminded to never drive through a flooded roadway. Rushing water can carry a vehicle away, and the pavement could be undermined in areas where water covers the road. In addition, visibility is diminished in the dark, making it difficult to determine the depth of the water or the swiftness of the current. Several water rescues have been reported by law enforcement officials in the district this afternoon after vehicles became stuck in flood water.
The National Weather Service has also warned of the possibility of additional flooding near the Green and Ohio Rivers in the next few days as water makes its way downstream to our area.
