HARTFORD, Ky. — Billy Thompson, 66, of Hartford, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at University of Louisville Jewish Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1958, in Louisville to the late Joseph Alvin and Mary E. Saling Thompson.
Billy retired from Bobs IGA after 48 years where he served in numerous management positions. After retirement, Billy worked as a bus monitor for the Ohio County School System. He was a member of Hartford Christian Church.
Billy was an avid rock hunter, arrowhead and Indian artifact collector and he loved to fish. He loved his community, sitting at the liars table at breakfast club and was known by many, young and old. From coaching baseball, riding the bus, mowing neighborhood yards, he always made an impact on every person he encountered.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Thompson.
He leaves behind to cherish many memories, his wife of 46 years, Cindy Frizzell Thompson, of Hartford; three children, Beth (Jarred) Humphrey, of Hartford, Cory (Lauren) Thompson, of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Kirby (Nathan) Reed, of Harrison, Ohio; one brother, Gary “Rockie” (Pam) Thompson, of Rochester, Kentucky; four sisters, Cheryl (Mark) Givens, of Echols, Kentucky, Judy Smith, of Owensboro, Maria (Joe) Keith, of Lewisburg, Kentucky, and Bonnie Gogel, of Echols; and his brother and best friend since high school, Steve (Teresa) Dowell. Billy was blessed with nine grandchildren, Conner Bratcher, Max Thompson, Olivia Thompson, Nolan Thompson, Griffin Thompson, Jaxon Reed, Ezra Reed, Lincoln Reed and Holden Reed, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Hartford Christian Church (122 Walnut Street, Hartford, KY 42347) with Bro. Steve Flener officiating. Burial will follow in Echols Cemetery. Friends may visit with Billy’s family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at Hartford Christian Church.
In 2016, Billy was a gracious recipient of a kidney transplant. His last gift was having the honor of donating bone and tissue to help save the lives of others.
