HARTFORD, Ky. — Richard Eugene Spears, 69, of Hartford, passed away on January 29, 2025, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born on Dec. 7, 1955, to Joseph D. Spears, Jr. and Shirley Ann Spears. Richard grew up in a loving family with three brothers.

Richard was a hardworking man with a big heart. In his thirties, his most beloved job was farming and lumbering his own property in Ohio County, Kentucky. He cherished the home he created and loved caring for his animals and property. Richard was a jack of all trades and went on to manage a multifamily property where he helped many. His longest career, from which he retired, was driving semis.

Richard’s passions in life included his children, making people laugh, cooking, and feeding anyone and everyone who would allow him to. He found tranquility in having his own land. His main goal in life was to make sure his children and grandchildren knew how much he loved them.

He is predeceased by his brother, Joseph D. Spears III, and his sister, Christine Hendricks.

He is survived by his brothers, Norman L. Spears and wife, Dana, of Maceo, Kentucky, and Bobby F. Spears, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; two sisters, Mary D. Payne (Tom), and Cathy P. Conrey.

Preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Louise Spears on March 21, 1990, he leaves behind five children, Jennifer Susan Spears, Anna Nicole Spears, Cynthia Ruth Clements, Chasity Nadine Spears, and Richard EJ Spears, along with his fiancée, Laura Bishop; spiritually adopted sons, Christopher Clarence Taylor, Charles William Taylor, and Brandon Dewayne Taylor, and by 12 grandchildren who know him as PawPaw.

Richard’s life was filled with love, family, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Set Free Church- 921 Moreland Ave., Owensboro, Kentucky, Dress code: casual
