BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Jean Reid Reynolds, 102, of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully at Dogwood Estates in Beaver Dam on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. Jean was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Rockport, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Mosby Bertrand Reid and Lennie Maddox Reid.
Jean graduated from Rockport High School in 1941. She was a proud Rockport High Tiger cheerleader and the 1941 class valedictorian.
After marriage, she and William moved to Beaver Dam where she lived until her death. Jean was an active member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, the Class of Faith, and the Director of Nursery for many years. Jean belonged to the Goshen Homemakers and her baking and cooking skills were well-known in the community. Her breads and cakes were often sold before the Holiday Bazaar opened for business.
She was quite the seamstress; she enjoyed making clothes for herself and others, quilting, embroidery, needlepoint, and crocheting. Jean enjoyed her garden and canning and freezing her produce. Her mustard and sweet pickles were prized!
Jean loved to read and work on crossword puzzles (never cheating), watch UK Basketball, and travel to Kentucky State Parks. She retired from Kentucky Utilities after many years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, William McKinley Reynolds, Jr. She and William married on Oct. 16, 1942. Other than her parents and late husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Annetta Howerton (Andy), Virginia “Gee Gee” Lamb, Margaret Welborn (Johnny), and James “Buddy” Reid (Gladys).
Jean is survived by her son, Dr. McKinley Reid Reynolds (Sheila), of Mayfield, Kentucky; daughter, Lynn Anne Reynolds Servis (Dave), of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Reid Reynolds, Keely Reynolds, Summer Williams (Zach); great-grandchildren, Maddox Carrillo, Jayden Carrillo, and Wyatt Reid Williams, all of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Miss Jean and her family thank the compassionate and loving staff at Dogwood Estates and Hospice of Ohio County for their expert care and guidance.
Visitation will be at Bevil Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. CST. A service will follow at 3 p.m. with Dr. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at the Reid Family Cemetery in Rockport, Kentucky.
