Beaver Dam Police warning of text scam

BEAVER DAM, Ky. — The Beaver Dam Police Department is warning the public about a scam going around Ohio County and other areas of the state.

The scam involves fraudulent texts from a company called Riverlink. Riverlink is a tolling service in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area. The scam text pretending to be Riverlink asks for personal information and may claim you owe money to the service. This is a scam.

Riverlink does not send toll charge notifications by text message. The only texts you may receive from Riverlink are low balance or auto-replenishment reminders to customers with prepaid accounts.

The BDPD also reminds the public never to respond to or open links from phone numbers you don’t recognize. Also, check on elderly people in your community to make sure they are aware of these scams and are not being scammed.
