HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is warning Ohio County residents about a phone scam using its phone number and name to request money.

The OCSO was notified about a scam using its main number in which the scammer tells the victim a person who lives at the victim’s address has failed to show up for a grand jury trial. The scammer tells the victim a warrant for the person’s arrest was issued and to avoid being arrested, the victim has to pay the scammer with gift cards or by wiring money.

The OCSO wants everyone to know that no local, state or federal law enforcement agency will ever contact you asking for money for any reason. Law enforcement agencies will never call and tell you there is a warrant for your or anyone else’s arrest. Law enforcement agencies will never ask you to wire money or purchase gift cards to pay for anything.

These calls are scams. Do not give out your personal or financial information over the phone.
