CENTERTOWN, Ky. — Joyce Martin Barnes, 94, of Centertown, passed peacefully at the Heartford House in Owensboro, Kentucky, on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, with her daughters by her side. She was born in Ohio County, Kentucky, on Oct. 12, 1930, to the late Edwin and Dova Tichenor Martin.
Joyce was a graduate of Centertown High School. She was a member of Centertown Baptist Church. She worked at GE in Owensboro, Montpelier Glove Company in Hartford, Kentucky, Kresge in Michigan, and Thomas Industries in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. She spent her later years being a homemaker on the farm in Kronos.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lyman Barnes; brother, Dalton Martin; and sisters, Sue Goodall Hurt, Barbara Moorman, and Linda Brock.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Barnes Adkins, Phyllis (Don) Smith, and Zexia Barnes; grandchildren, Preston (Amanda) Adkins, Chris Smith, Carrie Smith; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Smith, Hadley Adkins, Wrigley Adkins and Amity Rose Adkins; her sister, Mary Adams Starnes; and her sister-in-law, Zexia (Jerry) Bishop.
Funeral services for Joyce will be on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Scott Fleener officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Centertown Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed through the funeral home website at bevilbrosfuneralhomes.com.
