BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Raymond Edward Higbee, 91, of Beaver Dam, passed away Nov. 24, 2024, at 2:30 a.m. He was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Asa Coger and Tella Mae Poole Higbee and grew up in Meade County, Kentucky.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, entering the U.S. Air Force Nov. 11, 1951 and was honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1955. He served as military police protecting air bases in England and Europe.
He was a member of the Beaver Dam Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for 35 years.
He worked for six years as an underground coal miner before going to work as a truck driver for Miles Farm Supply, from where he retired.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester Higbee and Asa Jr., and sisters, Margaret Berry, Thelma Curl, and Allene.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Casey Higbee; three children, Linda Jane (Tim) Hillard, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Terry Higbee, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Steven (Andrea) Higbee, of Plain City, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Whitney Morris, Nicholas Bohrer, Lesley Beams, Tiffany, Cassie and Isaac Hillard, Torri Mattes Higbee, Skyylar, and Sienna Higbee; five great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Raymond enjoyed being with his family, working in the yard and building things in his workshop. His greatest desire was to serve God.
Services for Raymond will be Saturday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Military rights will be performed by Ohio County Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service with Lowell Sallee and Mike Thomas officiating.
