FAIRDALE, Ky. — Kevin Arthur Salyer, 64, of Fairdale, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 4, 2024. Kevin was born in Hartford, Kentucky, on May 31, 1960, to the late Arthur Salyer and JoAnn Wise.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Leon Mudd; and his four-legged companion, Bogie.

Kevin was a well-known educator for 33 years. He took pride in his work during his time as an educator and athletic director and taught biology at Doss and Valley High Schools. He was the head basketball coach at Atherton High School for two years and at Doss High School for 10 years. He also coached football and tennis at Doss High School. He became Athletic Director at Western High School in 1998 and went to Doss High School as Athletic Director in 2003-2013.

Kevin impacted many lives of the students he taught and coached over the years. After retiring from Doss High School in 2013, Kevin enjoyed playing golf with his wife Beth, traveling south, and watching their favorite TV shows together. Poppa, as he was known to his Grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting events and activities. Most days, you wouldn’t see Kevin without his sidekick Birdie.

Kevin was a member of South Park Country Club, a member of the Doss High School, Valley High School Hall of Fames and the Metro Area Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. Kevin enjoyed watching many games at the KHSAA State Basketball Tournaments and continued his support of area high school athletics.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beth Ann Salyer; his mother, JoAnn Wise; sister, Vicki Burnette (John); brother, Charlie Mudd (Angie); his children, Holly Mitchell (Charles), Morgan Stucker, Kameron Salyer, Kyle Salyer, and “adopted son,” Derek Anderson (Jamie); his grandchildren, Kayliana, Kaden, Carter, Kingston, and DJ; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Jan Powars and David and Charlene Parks; his brother-in-law Danny Powars; sisters-in-law, Tammy Powars, Beth Motley (Chris), and Suzy Whatley (Matt) Brian Uberlhart; his nephews, Jeff, Brandon (Kayla), and Zach Powars, Cory Spencer, Mason Mudd, Jared Johnson, Tanner, Mason, and Landon Whatley; and nieces, Meredith and Madison Mudd, Jana “Boom Boom” Johnson (Kelcie); and many family and friends.

Per Kevin’s wishes, cremation was chosen and no service will be held.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the house of Beth & Kevin on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m.
