UTICA, Ky. — Samuel Wayne Barnett, a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2024, at his residence in Utica. Born on Sept. 10, 1945, in Ohio County, Kentucky, Samuel was a loving husband, a devoted father, proud papaw, a beloved brother, and a friend to many.

He spent his career as a dedicated plumber at Pipefitters Local Union #633 in Owensboro, where he was known for his skilled craftsmanship and strong work ethic. Samuel found joy in rebuilding old tractors and would always eagerly share his passion for them with family and friends.

Affectionately known as “Smiling Sam,” his infectious laughter and positive outlook on life brought warmth to all those around him even at times stirring up a little mischief.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Samuel found fulfillment in volunteering within the community and offering a helping hand to those in need. His unwavering faith in the Lord was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through challenges and reminding others of the power of belief.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents Sam Barnett, Mae Allen Barnett; siblings, Pete Barnett, Clay Barnett, Susie Allen, Bobby Barnett, Coy Barnett, Dorothy Ralph, Jean Heifner, and Fay Kessinger.

Survived by his loving spouse, Helen Marie Barnett; daughters, Pam Barnett and Christy Shields (Johnny “Bub”); along with his granddaughters, Nicole Mattingly (Michael), Ashton Stiff (Nathan); grandsons, Garrett Wathen (Taylor), Marcus Shields, Gavin Wathen; six great-grandchildren, Hadley, Chloe and Sophia Mattingly, Lila and Tate Stiff, and Miles Wathen; brother, Roy Barnett; sisters, Ernestine Allen-Adams, Connie Sue Cockrell; and nieces and nephews.

Samuel leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and resilience. His memory will be forever treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Samuel’s life and legacy will be held at Pleasant Ridge Church of God, 11 Boling Road, Utica, on Oct. 28, 2024. A public viewing will take place at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. In honoring his wishes, Samuel will be laid to rest in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery.

Rest in peace, dear Samuel. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
