BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. — Ruby Pendley, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at her residence in Butler County, on Oct. 13, 2024, at the venerable age of 103. Born on Aug. 29, 1921, in the same county she would call home throughout her life, Ruby’s journey was one marked by devotion to her family and her faith.

Ruby’s life was a testament to her enduring faith, as the oldest member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Her professional life was marked by 26 years of dedicated work at Kanes, from which she retired. Her interests were a reflection of her love for the simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, working in her yard, gardening, freezing, and canning her vegetables.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton D. Pendley; her parents, Mervin and Myrtle Drake Beliles; her son, Wilbur Pendley; her granddaughter, Teresa Wells; her great-granddaughter, Paisleigh Johnson; her daughter-in-laws, Lucy and Sudie Pendley; her sons-in-law, Harold Gill and James Johnson; her brothers, Jay and Paul Belilies; and her sister, Florine Rhew.

Her legacy continues through her surviving children, Burbon Pendley, Linda Johnson, and Alice Gill, all of Morgantown, Kentucky. Ruby’s spirit will forever be cherished by her six grandchildren, Gorman Pendley (Kathy), of Morgantown, Jeffrey Pendley (Lisa), of Morgantown, Byron Pendley (Sarah), of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Tammie Cardwell (Ronnie), Roger Gill (Sandra), and Lisa Hale, all of Morgantown; as well as her 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews; and her devoted caregivers, Trinity Martin and Madison Nelson, also survive her.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Thursday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Jeremy Jessup officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery where Roger Gill, Byron Pendley, Nick Johnson, Jeff Pendley, Dalton Hale, Kenneth Johnson, and Gorman Pendley will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m. until funeral time at 1 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
