HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Water District issued a Boil Water Advisory for customers along a section of U.S. 62 W including McHenry, Echols and Rockports areas.

According to Eric Hickman, general manager of the OCWD, distribution crews are making emergency repairs to an 8-inch line that ruptured near Taylor Mine Road this morning.

The OCWD received widespread reports of some customers having low pressure that this 8-inch line feeds. Therefore, a Boil Water Advisory is issued out of precaution for around 996 customers in the following areas, U.S. 62 West including McHenry, Echols, and Rockport areas.

When the OCWD experiences pressure drops below 20 psi, its system becomes vulnerable to bacteria from groundwater or dirt seeping into the pipe and affecting the water supply. This is the reason a boil water advisory is issued after a water main break.

As a precautionary measure, all water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil for 3 minutes.

This advisory has been issued out of an abundance of caution and affected customers will be notified when it is lifted.

Customers can call the OCWD with additional questions at 270-298-7704.
