HARTFORD, Ky. — Wenston “Ray” Evans, 92, of Hartford, passed away Aug. 17, 2024, at Ohio County Healthcare. He was born on May 12, 1932, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late William Ransom and Flora Elizabeth Daugherty Evans.
Ray was a carpenter, building contractor, and co-founder of Hartford Building & Supply. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 40 years.
He also served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 179th Infantry Regiment during the Korean conflict, was wounded in action on May 15, 1953, and was awarded the Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, including his twin sister, Virginia Faye Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruby Dean Addington Evans; three daughters, Lydonna Faye Harris (Jimi), Kathy Rhea Calvert (Randy), Pamela Jo Renfrow (Terry); five grandchildren, Janae Calvert Mohon (Micah), Jarren Calvert Decker (Josh), Grant Winston Calvert (Courtney), Brandon Ray Harris (Kim), and Krista Harris Padgett (Jared); 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with Bro. Mike Thomas and Bro. Jerid Gunter officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford.
