HARTFORD, Ky. (8/6/24) — The Ohio County Water District has issued a Boil Water Advisory for customers along U.S. 62 E from the intersection of KY 505 S to 0.5 miles east of the Dan Road intersection. This includes customers along Dan Road to the intersection of Pete Ln. and customers along Whitley Loop.

According to Eric Hickman, OCWD General Manager, the OCWD distribution crews are making emergency repairs to a 4-inch line that ruptured on Dan Road.

Again, a Boil Water Advisory was issued out of precaution for around 66 customers in the following areas: U.S. 62 E from the intersection of KY 505 to 0.5 miles east of the Dan Road intersection including customers along Dan Road to the intersection of Pete Lane and customers along Whitley Loop.

When the OCWD experiences pressure drops below 20 psi, its system becomes vulnerable to bacteria from groundwater or dirt seeping into the pipe and affecting the water supply. This is the reason a boil water advisory is issued after a water main break.

As a precautionary measure, all water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil for three minutes. This advisory has been issued out of caution, and affected customers will be notified when it is lifted.
