BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Joe Charles Davenport, 82, of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully with family at his home on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024.

Joe was born in Cool Springs, Kentucky, on Feb. 6, 1942. He attended Western Kentucky University, where he completed his degree with a Rank 1 Master’s in Education. Shortly after college, he started teaching Math and Biology before he was quickly promoted into school leadership. After serving as principal of Wayland Elementary for a few years, he moved over to the Ohio County Board of Education’s Central Office, serving as assistant superintendent. After his career in education, he joined the family business of Beaver Dam Building Supply.

Joe was a devoted member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher to the Pairs & Spares Class for 45 years. The family has experienced many years of love and support from their church family at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pauline Davenport; his brother John Davenport Jr.; and his son, Blake Davenport.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith Hines Davenport; his sons, Mac Davenport, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Mike James (Holly), of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; his grandchildren, Walker Davenport, of Burlington, Iowa, Jake Davenport, of Beaver Dam, Tuck Davenport and Audrey Davenport, of Huntsville, and Mary Baxter Hartzell and Madi James, of Tuscaloosa; sister-in-law, Edith Rice and her children; Dr. William Douglas (Jennifer) Figg Sr.; their son, Dr. William Figg Jr., and David (Meredith) Figg; and their children, Andrew and Ava.

Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 9, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Beaver Dam Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall.
