HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Water District has issued a Boil Water Advisory for nine customers along KY 5050 S from Mt Pleasant Road to KY 2713. Earlier today, OCWD issued a Boil Water Advisory for customers in the Cromwell and Prentiss areas.

According to Eric Hickman, OCWD General Manager, OCWD distribution crews have been dispatched to the KY 505 S near the KY 2713 area to repair a 6-inch emergency main line break.

A Boil Water Advisory was issued out of precaution for only nine customers along KY 505 S from Mt. Pleasant Road to KY 2713.

Due to the number of residents affected and the time of day, OCWD crews didn’t have time to visit these customers door-to-door with Boil Water Advisory doorknob hangers. Fortunately, this Boil Water Advisory affects a small number of customers.

When the OCWD experiences pressure drops below 20 psi, its system becomes vulnerable to bacteria from groundwater or dirt seeping into the pipe and affecting the water supply. This is the reason a Boil Water Advisory is issued after a water main break.

As a precautionary measure, all water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil for three minutes. This advisory has been issued out of an abundance of caution and affected customers will be notified when it is lifted.
