HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Water District has issued a Boil Water Advisory for customers in the Cromwell and Prentiss areas.
According to Eric Hickman, OCWD General Manager, last night, the OCWD had a 16-inch water main blowout on U.S. 231 S near KY 269, also known as Prentiss Road, which caused a decrease in pressure for some customers in the Cromwell and Prentiss areas. OCWD distribution crews completed repairs at 6 a.m. this morning.
A Boil Water Advisory was issued out of precaution to any customer who lost pressure during this main line break, including the Cromwell and Prentiss areas.
Due to the number of residents affected and the time of day, OCWD crews didn’t have time to visit these customers door-to-door with Boil Water Advisory doorknob hangers. This Boil Water Advisory affects customers who lost water pressure in the Prentiss and Cromwell areas in the last 12 hours.
When the OCWD experiences pressure drops below 20 psi, its system becomes vulnerable to bacteria from groundwater or dirt seeping into the pipe and affecting the water supply. This is the reason a boil water advisory is issued after a water main break.
As a precautionary measure, all water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil for three minutes. This advisory has been issued out of an abundance of caution and affected customers will be notified when it is lifted.
