CALHOUN, Ky. — Mike Hayden, 67, of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, Kentucky. David Michael Hayden was born Oct. 31, 1956, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late John Franklin and Polly Ann Snyder Hayden.
Mike’s journey through life was one marked by joy, hard work, and the deep bonds of family and friendship.
Mike was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #181 in Owensboro, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity, dedication, and a friendly disposition that could brighten even the most challenging days on the job. His work ethic and commitment to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
A man of diverse interests, Mike found joy in the simplicity of nature and the thrill of adventure. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace in the tranquility of Kentucky’s rivers and lakes, where he would spend countless hours waiting for the next big catch. In his earlier years, Mike embraced the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle, experiencing the world with an unquenchable spirit of exploration.
Mike’s life was a testament to the values he held dear: love for his family, loyalty to his friends, and a deep appreciation for the moments that brought laughter and happiness. His stories, often recounted with a twinkle in his eye and a warm smile, will be retold and remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Mike’s legacy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. His journey on this earth has come to a close, but the memories he created will endure, woven into the fabric of the lives he so deeply affected. Mike’s presence will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, George Hayden, and a sister, Melody Hayden.
Mike is survived by a son, Joey Hayden, of Hartford, Kentucky, and his close friend, Beth LeBlanc, of Calhoun.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Charles Cemetery in Livermore. Friends may visit with Mike’s family from 10:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Musters in Livermore.
