LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a Special Weather Statement for Ohio County due to today’s expected excessive heat indices.

According to the NWS, temperatures in the low 90s and high relative humidity will lead to peak heat indices around or slightly above 100 degrees this afternoon. A few spots could approach brief heat indices near 105 degrees.

Scattered storms will be possible, especially this afternoon and evening. Locally torrential downpours and gusty winds will be the main threats. Storms this afternoon and evening will move from west southwest to east northeast around 15 to 25 mph.

Drink plenty of fluids, wear light and loose-fitting clothing, stay in air-conditioning if possible, seek shelter from the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Provide pets and other animals with shade and water.
