BEAVER DAM, Ky. — James R. Dowell, 86, of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 24, 1938, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Nokie and Catherine Cooper Dowell.
James was a United States Air Force Veteran and retired from Peabody Coal Company Sinclair Mines. After retirement, he opened his own business, Dowell’s Welding.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Blackman Dowell; infant son, James R. Dowell; son, Randall Dowell; and six siblings, Jackie Dowell, JC Dowell, Ray Dowell, Ronnie Dowell, and Sue Lindsey.
He leaves behind to cherish many memories, his son, Steven R. (Teresa) Dowell, of Owensboro, Kentucky; one brother, Mike (Charlene) Dowell, of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren, Lauren (Anthony) Andrews, Elizabeth (Kaylie) Hodskins, Alex (Melanie) Hodskins, Kevin (Alexis) Hodskins, and Jessica Rupert; 12 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Ava, McKenzie, Greyson, Charlotte, Cali, Jefferson, Cloud, Finley, Kevin, Valerie, and Violet; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. A private burial will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery.
