CROMWELL, Ky. — James F. Matthews Jr., 69, of Cromwell, passed away May 2, 2024. He was born on Sept. 14, 1954, to James Sr. and Edith Matthews.
James was a mechanic and worked for Reynold’s Auto Supply and Interstate Auto Parts for many years, developing wonderful relationships with his clients. He was a kind man who also enjoyed making others laugh any chance he had.
He liked watching NASCAR, UK basketball, and had a lifelong passion for building model cars. Most of all though, he loved spending time with his grandsons, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Edith; daughter, Jamie Philpot; and sister, Susan Matthews.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Hillary (Jarrod) Smith; sister, Sharon Matthews; grandchildren, Shelby (Bailey) Smith, Jojo Smith, and Eli Smith; niece, Stephanie Sanders; great-nieces, Hallie Sanders, Maggie Sanders, and Carley Baize; great-nephew, Willie James Sanders; great-great-niece and -nephew, Prestyn Harmon and Ry Baker; and the love of his life, Patty.
A memorial service to honor James’ life was held on Thursday, May 9, at Cromwell Community Church, KY 231 South and Cromwell Road, Cromwell, KY 42333, at 6 p.m.
