BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Betty Jane (Straub) Sumner, 88, of Beaver Dam, formerly of Chandler, Indiana, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2024, at her home under Hospice Care. She was born at home on Sept. 16, 1935, in St Wendell, Indiana, to the late Edward Straub and Margaret (Straub) Bell.
Betty was a gifted seamstress and cook. She retired from the Warrick County School Corporation and worked many years for Kuester’s Hardware. She was a Girl Scout leader and an avid yard saler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Ann, and father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Louise Sumner, of Elberfeld, Indiana.
She leaves behind to cherish all that she was; her husband of 67 years, Jerry W. Sumner; her daughters, Becky (David) Funk, of Hartford, Kentucky, and Jean Wright (Randall West), of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; grandchildren, Amy (Brandon) Reed, Cody (Miranda) Funk, Lea (Eric) Brown, and Sara (Ben) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Savannah Buckner, Alexis Buckner, Holly Funk, Brooklyn Reed, Reisz Thompson, Jerry Brown, Henry Brown, and Baby Thompson; two brothers, Harold Straub and Larry Straub, of St. Wendel, Indiana; sister-in-law, Connie Ruston, of Elberfeld, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on April 18, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Funeral service will be 12 noon at the funeral home with Sister Mary James officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville, Indiana.
Betty’s family would like to thank her present caregivers; Glenda, Tammy, Annie, Briley, Brandy, and Sherry for their care, love, and support. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St Jude.
