BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Donald Ray Carter, 75, of Beaver Dam, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with his family by his side at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born May 5, 1948, in Shidler, Oklahoma, to the late William Franklin Carter and Edna Marie Mosely Carter.
Don proudly served his country during Vietnam by entering the United States Marine Corps. At the end of Don’s life, he chose to help others by becoming an organ donor.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Roy Carter, and a brother, Herbert Carter.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 20 years, April Carter, of Beaver Dam; six children, Garrett (Cassie) Stewart, of Lexington, South Carolina, Kalob (Rachel) Stewart, of Smith’s Grove, Kentucky, Automn (Samuel) Rise, of Hartford, Kentucky, Sharlotte Andra, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Donald Carter, Jr., of Oklahoma City, and Coty Blackburn, of Greenville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Austin Carter, Emmaline and Joseph Anderson, Freya and Luna Stewart, Braddock “Willy B”, Killian “Kit” and Callum “Ghost Boy” Rise, Shane, Grace, April, and Jeffrey Andra, and Tyler Carter; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings, Bud Carter, of Mill City, Oregan, Donna Shannon, of Carney, Oklahoma, and Jerold Carter, of Hanahan, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 14, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Don’s family from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.
